Next Show–NEC Birmingham

SDSC-UK, a specialist, curated forum and exhibition, dedicated to the military, intelligence and security user communities, is coming to Birmingham’s NEC this February.

Formerly known as the Three Countries Defence & Security Expo, SDSC-UK is a highly specialised show, and it’s home to some of the most influential businesses and technologies in the industry, focussing specifically on emerging technologies to address a wide spectrum of modern security challenges.

The narrow focus makes the event a valuable landscape for pioneers, manufacturers, technology developers, and innovative SMEs working across the military, intelligence, and emergency services sectors.

Exhibition Stand Design at SDSC-UK

Since SDSC-UK is based in a high-stakes industry, trust signals and credentials are vital. Messaging should lean on precision and credibility, offering clear technical differentiators and use-cases to show value.

If budget allows, build to the maximum permitted height. This gives branding the best chance of being seen, and also gives you more space for messaging and imagery on the lower sections of the stand. Further highlight your trust signals, partners or credentials with lighting.

SDSC-UK focuses on quality of visitors, not quantity. There is deliberately restricted access to the show, curating an audience of senior defence leaders. Because every visitor is highly relevant to the show, exhibitors tend to find greater ROI from interactive features and demonstrations. Consider including a self-guide demo station, positioned on the busy aisle, or incorporate a demo area into your meeting space for more in-depth conversations.

Given the presence of government and defence stakeholders, it can be beneficial to create a semi-private meeting space for sensitive conversations, alongside a more open area for general enquiries and networking.

Whether you’re an innovative start-up or an industry stalwart, you will benefit from a professional-looking exhibition stand that clearly conveys your values, trust signals, and mission.

  • How does SDSC-UK compare to DSEI?

Both SDSC-UK and DSEI are UK-based defence exhibitions, but they differ in audience and scope. DSEI is one of the world’s largest, bi-annual international arms exhibitions, welcoming over 60,000 visitors. SDSC-UK is a smaller, yet highly targeted and highly exclusive convention, focusing specifically on specialist operational requirements, niche technology and digital security. Operating in close collaboration with the MOD, SDSC-UK limits attendance to verified, security-cleared professionals from the UK, NATO, and 5 EYES alliances.

  • Can I use the same exhibition stand for both SDSC-UK and DSEI?

Yes, you can use the same exhibition stand for both SDSC-UK, as long as you use a reusable, modular exhibition stand. It’s worth planning how you will adapt and reconfigure the stand if missions or requirements change drastically between shows.

  • What is the maximum height you are permitted to build to at SDSC-UK?

Build heights and regulations will be displayed in the exhibitor manual, which should be made public at least 6 months before the show date.

Insight

Hear how Quadrant2Design clients have conveyed credentials at relevant industry events.

We wanted a high-impact stand, one that drew the eye and one that got our brand messaging across very strongly, and what we have here has certainly delivered it.

The defence sector is quite a conservative one by its very nature. And so you've got a lot of grey, white, blue… a lot of reserve, if you see what I mean. We're lucky. We can afford to be a bit more rebellious, and so, for us, black, red, you know, strong colours, a vibrant impression is the way to go. We've had good feedback.

We've done shows before where we specified a custom-built stand which was fully made of plywood, wood, what have you, and at the end of the show they just got the hammers out and smashed it to bits, and I don't think that's the way to go. It's not. There's a better way of doing it. This is only a temporary thing. It only needs to be up for 5 days, and then we can reuse it.
