Phones can be useful and efficient for data collection at trade shows, as they are compatible with most modern data collection apps. In fact, many events now rely on mobile phones for lead collection.

Before the event, check if the organisers have a recommended lead/data collection app. While it’s good to have your own backup methods, it can be more efficient to use the recommended methods.

Next, define the data you would like to collect, such as name, company, email, position, and area of interest.

Once your data requirements are clear, choose your lead capture method. You could use a lead capture app, online forms, a QR code that opens to a signup page, or a CRM app.

  • Scanning Badges and Business Cards – Usually most efficient. Scanning apps instantly capture contact details, which can be reviewed and edited in real time to avoid errors. Often include note sections for details.
  • Mobile Forms – These forms are usually hosted on Google Forms, Typeform, or HubSpot forms. They’re less speedy than scanning apps, but allow exhibitors to sign up on their own, especially when directed by a QR code.
  • CRM Mobile App – Enter leads directly into your CRM software, such as Zoho or HubSpot. Efficient for post-show follow-up, but more time-consuming during the event.

We always recommend bringing additional chargers and charger packs so you’re well-prepared for the event. Also, make sure to qualify leads as you speak to them, and always add a personal note to help you with the follow-up.
