Exhibition stand design and build services at The Hannover Fairground in the Mittelfeld district of Hanover.

One of Germany’s Leading Exhibition Venue

With its dazzling architecture, 29 halls, and perfect transport connections, it’s easy to see why Hanover Fairground has been a leading exhibition venue for more than 60 years.

As exhibition venues go, this is certainly a big one. Covering 58,000 m2 area and 466,100 m2 indoor space, it is officially the largest exhibition ground in the world.

Also known as the “Deutsche Messe”, the Hanover Fairground is also called “the miracle of economics”, and has hosted some of Europe’s most outstanding and renowned exhibition shows like CeBit, Euroblech, and Domotex.

The exhibition venue also boasts a range of other features and facilities including the Convention Centre, with 35 function rooms – as well as large grassy park areas and “chill out” zones, creating a unique relaxed atmosphere for networking opportunities.

Getting to the Venue

Hanover Airport is a large international airport, with many direct flights to many major European metropolitan cities, including London, Manchester and Edinburgh. There are several direct DB trains from the airport to Hanover Fairground, departing every three hours and only taking 22 minutes.

The Hanover Fairground has been connected to the city’s tramway since its very early days in 1949. Lines 8 and 18 run directly to the venue from Messe Nord station, while lines 6 and 16 both run to and from Messe Ost station.

During the large exhibition shows, like CeBIT or Hannover Messe, there is a special peak hour express service, line E, which travels to the venue from the Hauptbanhof, Kröpcke and Aegidientorplatz

If you’re travelling by car, the main autobahns leading into Hanover are the A7 and A2. From these roads, you need to take the exit for the A37 and this will take you directly to the exhibition venue. As there are a total of 50,000 parking spaces at the Hanover Fairground you shouldn’t have too much trouble finding a spot, but it’s always a good idea to reserve a space beforehand. The postcode you need for your satnav is: 30521.

History of Hanover Fairground

After World War II, the British military wanted to encourage economic recovery in the western part of the then divided Germany by holding a trade show.  An old aircraft hangar in the Mittelfeld district of Hanover was selected as the ideal location for this post-war exhibition.

In 1947, Germany was officially re-opened for business, as the aircraft hangar hosted the Exportmesse – encouraging much needed international trade and investment to that part of Germany. This proved so successful, the show became a permanent exhibition fixture, and the site went on to become the Hanover Fairground.

You’ll have little trouble finding the venue if you’re in Hanover. The Hermes Tower, built on the exhibition site in 1958, towers over the city at an incredible 88.8 meters. Those wishing to take a break from an exhibition and take in some views can reach the tower’s observation deck by lift.

When the venue expanded in 1970, its Hall 1 was the largest exhibition hall in the world. By the time the venue had undergone further redevelopment in the 1990s, its Hall 13 became the largest hall in the world without internal structural columns.

Given the scale and the ambition of the venue, Hanover Fairground has become an inspiration for many exhibition centres around the world.
