The Background of Messe Düsseldorf

The Messe Düsseldorf pulls together 19 exhibition halls, spanning across 262,000 m2. The venue boasts an additional 43,000 m2 of outdoor space.

Messe Düsseldorf is well equipped to host any sized event, from large industrial exhibitions such as BEAUTY DÜSSELDORF to small trade shows such as Architect@Work.

In 2018, Messe Düsseldorf welcomed 1,125,187 visitors and 26,827 exhibitors. The venue, and its location, attract decision makers from all over the world. They are incredibly good at what they do, which has enabled them to become one of the top ten trade show organisers in terms of revenue.

Travelling to the Venue

Messe Düsseldorf is located in the west of Germany, making it easily accessible wherever you are in the world. The venue is just a two-hour train journey from Amsterdam and Frankfurt, or a one-hour flight from Paris, London, Berlin and other European cities.

If you are driving to Messe Düsseldorf, they have two car parks that are connected to the venue via a free shuttle bus. The address for satellite navigation is:

D-40474 Düsseldorf, Am Staad (Stockumer Höfe).

Rich in History

Messe Düsseldorf’s history began in 1811 when fourteen exhibitors came together for the first industrial exhibition. The events grew in popularity, and it wasn’t long before it was attracting people from overseas.

In January 1948, NOWEA embraced the idea of international exhibitions by hosting a German industry trade show in New York. It was popular with crowds flocking to the wooden huts.

Realising the opportunity, NOWEA established a permanent exhibition centre in the city of Düsseldorf. This kicked started what would later be known as Messe Düsseldorf, one of the largest exhibition centres in the industry.

Today, we see this achievement recognised worldwide. European towns pay tribute to that very first international exhibition by hosting German Christmas markets in the same wooden huts.
