Rich in History

Frankfurt has hosted industry events for 800 years. Its accessibility makes it the ideal location for international trade shows and exhibitions. In its earliest days, the city was no more than a small market town. Entrepreneurs and innovators would gather at a medieval building in the centre of Frankfurt to sell and buy products.

In the 1300s Frankfurt gained a reputation amongst locals and business travellers for hosting these types of events. The Frankfurt Autumn Fair, coined by Emperor Frederick II, and the Frankfurt Spring Fair, supported by Emperor Louis IV became part of Frankfurt culture.

The history of the city shows a small town with a passion for markets, industry events and two annual trade fairs. It is clear to see how they became renowned as the world’s largest trade fair organisers who own exhibition grounds. One of the original market buildings, the Festhalle, is still in use today.
