Get to know the Convention Centre Dublin

The Convention Centre Dublin is a world-class conference venue in the heart of Dublin. Designed by award-winning Irish born architect Kevin Roche, whose portfolio includes the New York Metropolitan Museum and the UN Plaza.

There’s no missing the CCD, located right by the Dublin Docklands. The venue’s unique glass-fronted atrium has already made a name for itself as a major landmark of Dublin.

Since its opening in 2010, it has been home to over 1900 events already! It houses 22 multi-functional rooms that are fit for hosting meetings, banquets, conferences and exhibitions.

Although the CDD is a relatively new venue compared to the likes of Olympia and ExCeL, it’s quickly becoming a leading venue in its own right with 45 industry awards to its name. These include Best Overseas Conference Centre, Best Event Venue and the Think Global award plus many more.

Great transport links

Located at the heart of Dublin, CDD is easily accessible by all the major transport options.

For those flying into the city, Dublin Airport is within easy reach. The airport serves over 180 routes, including direct flights to all major UK cities. The schedule also includes daily flights to the Emirates and many North American cities.

A quick 15 minutes shuttle bus will take you directly from the airport to outside the venue.

If you choose to travel by train the two main stations are Connolly and Heuston. From Connolly, the venue is a quick 10 minutes’ walk or a quick tram journey away.

The tram (Lucas) is run by Dublin’s light rail transit system. There are two main lines: the green line and the red line. The CCD is located on the red line and is accessible by both Connolly and Heuston train station.

History of the Convention Centre Dublin

Early talks of establishing an exhibition centre in Dublin goes back to 1995. But with ongoing talks the project was not finalised until 3 years later.

Construction for the building started in 1998 with the contract awarded to Irish companies Treasury Holdings Limited and John Sisk & Son Limited.

The project was completed 12 years later in September 2010. Designed by the famous Irish architect Kevin Roche every detail was thought of, including the door handles!

It was quickly recognised as an iconic landmark in Dublin with its glass-fronted exterior and numerous curved walls. Proving to be popular amongst delegates and the public.

The building accommodates up to 8,000 people in 22 meeting rooms, which also includes a 4,500 square metre exhibition hall. Making the CCD a vital part of Dublin’s bustling economy.
